People and steward approval
An admin opens one Person, known by one email address, and sees every role, their interests, backcountry user type, organizations, subscriber state and do-not-mail. After fall training the admin records steward approval with when and by whom, and may withdraw it; approval is what makes a steward's check-ins count. Someone who uses two addresses is two Persons, never merged, and an admin can delete a Person.

Three ways to build it
Low not chosen
People in Django's built-in admin: a row per Person with their email and do-not-mail; approval is a checkbox with no date.
Medium committed
One Person's page with their role, interest and flag; approval given and withdrawn by an admin with when and by whom; the approval notice sent; delete a Person. Committed for first snow (#67), because approval is what makes the steward check-in report true.
High not chosen
The medium page plus a list of all people to search and act from (#187). Merge and split stay out (#69, kept as an enhancement).
What the tests prove
- Countsan anonymous check-in never counts; a check-in by email from an approved steward counts.
- Withdrawnwithdrawing approval stops future check-ins counting.
- One addressone email address is one Person; a second address is a second Person.
- Do-not-maildo-not-mail belongs to the address; a do-not-mail address is never a subscriber.
- Deleteonly an admin can delete a Person.
Measurements
Counted on the wireframe; live numbers come from the usage compartment once the screen exists.
Decided
- An admin gives steward approval (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #67).
- The email address is the person: one address, one Person; someone with two addresses is two Persons, and Persons are never merged (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, ADR 0007, #69).
- An admin can delete a Person, and there is no screen yet that lists everyone (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #187).
- The patroller list is pulled by hand by an admin, about twice a season; nothing from Beacon enters the repo (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #60).
- Approval follows in-person training only; an online course is a later enhancement (#195) (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #67).
- Deleting a Person keeps their records, made anonymous: check-ins stay anonymous, installs read by a deleted person, upcoming sign-ups are removed, and the address is kept only on a do-not-mail blocklist (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #187).
- A patroller missing from a later list loses the patroller role after an admin checks who is being dropped and confirms (Jamie, 2026-10-22 PT, #60).
